The sheer force of her personality makes her play such an unlikely success.

When Amy Knapp crowned herself “Miss Most Miserable Single Sarasota Girl 2002,” she didn’t think it would get her anywhere. She certainly didn’t expect it to lead to the stage and an impishly sophisticated theatre debut.

The truth is, in 2002, Amy Knapp was just a little depressed. One night, she doodled a sassy, feminine line drawing… and “gg ~ single sarasota girl” was born. The line drawing turned into columns, initially printed in SRQ Magazine and now read by a worldwide fan base on the Internet. The columns naturally created a demand for “gg” merchandise, now sold in boutiques all over the country.

“gg” is short for “good girl.” Explains Knapp: “When I created her, my best friend and I needed a new friend, an inspiration, a woman we could all love and admire and befriend. I created “gg” for both of us, but it turned out that other people needed her too. Her confidence, her wit and her optimism have resonated with women of all ages, and a lot of men as well.”
